What is Japanese Encephalitis?
Japanese Encephalitis is an infection of the brain and can be potentially fatal. The disease is transmitted by mosquitos in endemic areas (similar to yellow fever).
Dosage & Instructions
The vaccine is administered as a 2 part vaccine spaced 28 days apart. The second vaccine should be administered 1 week prior to travel.
Certificate
An immunization record is highly suggested for proper dosing. Proof of vaccination is helpful when traveling.
Protection
The exact protective duration is unknown. A booster is recommended if the prior vaccine is over 1 year from exposure risk.
Recommended For
Travel vaccination; Not recommended for routine administration unless living in an endemic area or internationally traveling to Asia and Western Pacific as these are places of high risk for the disease.
